In a significant advancement for European defence capabilities, Schiebel’s CAMCOPTER® S-100 Unmanned Air System (UAS) has proven its mettle during the European Defence Agency’s (EDA) inaugural Operational Experimentation (OPEX) campaign. The exercise served as a critical testbed for autonomous cross-domain logistics, where the S-100 successfully demonstrated its ability to transport vital supplies seamlessly between aerial and terrestrial domains in a simulated, high-threat environment.
Held over five weeks at Italian military facilities, the landmark campaign integrated six major European defence contractors. The collaborative effort focused on pushing the boundaries of how unmanned systems (UAS and UGS) can work together to execute complex, autonomous resupply missions, marking a substantial leap forward in military interoperability and innovation.
Throughout the rigorous trials, the CAMCOPTER S-100 was tasked with multiple daily logistics flights. Utilizing an underslung cargo net, the unmanned helicopter reliably transported suspended loads exceeding 50 kilograms. It consistently performed its duties not in ideal conditions, but in scenarios replicating the harsh realities of the modern battlefield. The system maintained mission effectiveness despite being subjected to degraded communications, adverse weather, and simulated enemy contested airspace, underscoring its renowned robustness and reliability.
